Swimmin' hole

Highway 70 through Feather River Canyon in northeast California is one of the best drives in the state. It parallels the Feather River for more than 60 miles between Oroville and Quincy, crossing the river several times via spectacular steel bridges. It even has dark tunnels blasted though granite that always make me freak me out when forget to remove my shades.

Right near the intersection of Hwy 70 and 89, about 10 mies north of Quincy is Indian Falls. The falls itself isn't overly spectacular, but the swimming hole that it has created and the surroundings are.

What a great place to take a sunny afternoon break.

Summer Cascade

When people think of mountains in California, they quickly think of the Sierra Nevada. But there's another mountain range running through California that is equally as spectacular, but completely different. Yes, I'm talking about the Cascade Range.

The Cascades are actually a series of volcanoes, and dominate more of Oregon and Washington than they do California. But California is fortunate enough be the home of the two southernmost peaks in the Cascade Range, Mt. Shasta and Mt. Lassen.

I've been coming to these parts my whole life, but Lassen Volcanic National Park never ceases to amaze me. The varying winter snowfall gives the park a different look every year, and the contstantly changing weather provides ever-changing variety.

Driving through the park this July day, I felt the scorch of the sun and also saw several feet of snow. It's easy to forget where you are and what season it is.

Los Hermanos con Padres y Gigantes

My brother, Davi, and I decided to fly down to see another of our brothers in San Diego for the long weekend. It was no coincidence that the San Francisco Giants were playing the San Diego Padres that weekend.

After a leisurely evening BBQ on Saturday night, the three hermanos (brothers) headed out to Petco Park for the game on Sunday. Boy was it nice knowing we had the next few days off!

Of course a few pre-game bevvies were in order, and brother Glenn showed us to a few spots down in the Gaslamp district. After an initial round of assorted drinks, we had another round consisting of huge beers. Brother Davi, on the verge of an overdue divorce filing, decided a round of Jägermeister was in order before heading into the park. Mmmm, Jäger.

After entering the gates, we grabbed another round and a photo of the hermanos seemed in order, so we took one.

Then we found our seats behind home plate. Glenn came through. The afternoon went quickly, and we stayed lubed throughout the day. After a Giants vicory, dinner for some and a few more drinks, it was time to call it a day. Or at least that's all I can admit to.
