4 Peaks Music Festival

A few months back my sister told me she was going to the 4 Peaks Music Festival in Bend, Oregon, on July 26 & 27, and suggested I join her. Who was I to say, "no"?

I arrived Friday mornng at about 11 a.m. When I emerged from my car, my sister, Nance, handed me a ice cold Coors Light and said, "Welcome to Bend."

Nance is a friend of the band Poor Man's Whiskey, so we made sure to head down to the stage in time for their Friday afternoon set. That effort continued into a long Friday night.

On Saturday moning, our campsite neighbor whipped up some vegetarian breakfast burritos as he sipped on a whiskey sour. Then we again headed down to the stage for an afternoon of music and brews...

A Case of the Crab

Tonight's Crazy Crab Bobblehead night at the ballpark. And because we bought special tickets, we're also invited to a Lot D pre-party which entitled us to a "free beer or fresh crab sandwich."

When we got there, my brother and I could see a crowd gathering. As we got closer, Crazy Crab was surrounded. Fans were trying to boo, but it proved hard to do because everyone was laughing so much. (You try it, it's not easy!)

I waited for the crowd to clear a bit, then saw an opportunity and approached.

"I hate you!" I said to Crazy Crab.

"I hate you," vollied the Crab.

"Look over there," I said, hoping to get a photo.

"I don't wanna," said the Crab, with a hint of Brooklyn accent.

The Crazy Crab juked a few fans as he tried to avoid other cameras. And after a few more minutes of that, Crazy Crab vanished into the afternoon.

Later at the ball yard, the Crab made another appearance to spread his love...

"Happy Birthday"

I was walking back home from buying a newspaper this morning when I saw a grey old man walking up the sidewalk from the other direction. He looked a little questionable, but he was clean and dressed nicely with his collar buttoned to the top. He stopped to watch a black squirrel scamper up a tree, then he continued walking. As I passed I said hello.

"Happy Birthday," he responded.

Was he referring to our nation's birthday today? Or is he just crazy? Or is he Frosty the Snowman?
