Summer Cascade

When people think of mountains in California, they quickly think of the Sierra Nevada. But there's another mountain range running through California that is equally as spectacular, but completely different. Yes, I'm talking about the Cascade Range.

The Cascades are actually a series of volcanoes, and dominate more of Oregon and Washington than they do California. But California is fortunate enough be the home of the two southernmost peaks in the Cascade Range, Mt. Shasta and Mt. Lassen.

I've been coming to these parts my whole life, but Lassen Volcanic National Park never ceases to amaze me. The varying winter snowfall gives the park a different look every year, and the contstantly changing weather provides ever-changing variety.

Driving through the park this July day, I felt the scorch of the sun and also saw several feet of snow. It's easy to forget where you are and what season it is.
